Mrs Marina Mickleson

Marina is a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Midwife & Diabetes Educator with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She specialises in specifically the management of pre -conception counselling for women with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, diabetes management for women with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in pregnancy and gestational diabetes. Marina also has vast knowledge in managing diabetes outside of pregnancy.

Marina has extensive experience in managing patients with continuous blood glucose monitoring (CGM) systems and is able to insert these and help patients with insulin adjustment to better manage their diabetes.

Marina has worked at King Edward Memorial Hospital for 20 years now and can provide our patients with shared antenatal care with your local hospital or private obstetrician. Once you have had your baby, Marina is happy to see you and your baby for your 6 week check and baby immunisations.

Marina is certified in cervical screening and has acted as a mentor for many nurses and midwives while they have been doing their course. Marina is also competent in the insertion and removal of Implanon and IUD’s. Marina also works In the Medical Abortion clinic at KEMH and can provide abortion care for women less than 9 weeks gestation.

Marina has extensive expertise in medical weight management care. Marina is SCOPE certified and can assist with patients needing to lose weight prior to having bariatric surgery, patients needing medical assistance in loosing weight with or without type 2 diabetes. Marina is an active member of the WA Bariatric Special Interest Group.

Marina is also a Voluntary Assisted Dying Practitioner and works with a team of doctors providing VAD throughout WA. Marina does not do assessments for VAD but has completed the full training, has extensive knowledge and is more than happy to speak to patients wanting to know more about the VAD process and is happy to on-refer to a doctor who can carry out the assessments for VAD.
